Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Initiating Derogatory Songs Targeting Coach Wilder

The striker has signed with the Championship side only half a year following instigating insulting taunts targeting the team's coach, Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has signed a contract joining the Championship club in difficulty until January. His lengthy career at Elland Road concluded by mutual consent in August.

One of Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds involved leading offensive chants regarding Wilder amid the club’s promotion party in April. Now, the former England player is set to play under Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to lift his beloved club out of the relegation zone.

Past History Between Bamford & Wilder

Both men had a past prior to Leeds earned promotion back to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager described Bamford as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades secured automatic promotion while Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends & Looking Ahead

Everything appears has been resolved with United, the league's lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost in attack and Bamford looking to resurrect his career.

The song about Wilder spread widely in April. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.

Wilder commented at the time: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I have no issue at all with it. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and admired him calling me.

“We had 20 minutes and similarly I spoke to Daniel too and we had a half-hour chat together and he's a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to dish it out and take it and that’s an integral part of football at every level, even on Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I am cool with it and I told him that to Pat.”

Recent Playing Challenges

Bamford made 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign but the former Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
