Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
