A Mountain of Anime News Arrived During the Festive Season
The Christmas holidays provide a multitude of activities far superior than checking the updates: discovering surprises, feasting on festive fare, and harnessing patience techniques to refrain from yelling at family members. Hopefully you were able to accomplish all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling developments emerged over the festive period, and should you missed any, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.
One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Moving Forward (In 2027)
Without a doubt the most surprising revelation, the much-discussed disaster that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to deter the series' continuation. The show will come back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they might as well have called it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which might be a good sign. But, the promotional image for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This leads one to believe that, nowadays, they must be trolling the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a name for being an prestigious animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its work but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime stemming from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a lighter schedule, the series showed it still retained the fans' affection and goodwill, and now the community is thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production
Kingdom is the best-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English translation, but the anime has been running for years, and season 6 was another stellar entry. It turns out that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will probably premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
A further studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has brought us critically acclaimed works of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my watchlist.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Second Season
Right after the release of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific premiere date has not yet been announced.
