Moclín, a picturesque hillside village in Andalucía, approximately a short drive from Granada, is the breathtaking backdrop for this painting holiday. Artists of all abilities – including beginners – will learn how to design and produce non-representational pieces. A portion of the time will be spent in the open air, working on guided exercises out in nature. These initial sketches and paintings will then be developed in the studio, with guests completing multiple abstract landscapes in acrylic paint to be exhibited in the village. The group has exclusive access of the venue, which is built around an open courtyard and has a roof terrace with panoramic vistas over the countryside. The price includes five days’ painting tuition; all meals; and an excursion to the local castle and other local sights.

Plant-Based Culinary in the Algarve

This Mediterranean foodie getaway, located at a villa by the river in the central Algarve, is inspired by the plant-based cuisine of celebrated cooks. Participants will master the art of selection of small dishes, attend a falafel-making workshop, perfect mid-morning meals such as shakshuka, and make substantial main courses like spicy mushroom ragu and moussaka. There are visits to the village market and a nearby winery to sample local vintages, combined with leisure time for walks by the nearby river, to unwind on the deck or take a dip in the infinity pool. The villa, a former farmhouse, has multiple rooms, plus glamping tents in the gardens.

Hip Hop in Buckinghamshire

This energetic camp is an energizing, inclusive three-day dance intensive for adults in High Wycombe. The format each day is a high-energy group warmup, then several 90-minute workshops covering different street dance styles, then an 60-minute jam to show off new moves. Dancers are divided into levels according to skill level, so it is suitable for those who are completely new to popping and locking, all the way to experienced performers or instructors. The camp doesn’t include lodging but there are a number of hostels and hotels within walking distance, and it is under an hour by rail into London.

Sea Shanty Weekend in St Ives

St Ives is the ideal setting for a sea shanty weekend. Participants will learn traditional shanties from a folk singer and vocal coach, and try their hand at writing their own. The schedule includes voice exercises, breathing exercises, performance tips and a final evening concert. The holiday is held in a country house with views of the bay. Full board are provided, such as a Cornish cream tea on arrival, cooked or continental breakfasts, lunches to go and evening meals. Grog, unfortunately, is not provided. Creative Writing in Crete

Writer and lecturer Greg Mosse leads the regular sessions on this authors' getaway. He covers topics including story structure, characters, setting and suspense, to submitting work to publishers. A co-host, the bestselling author Kate Mosse, will participate in events at the start and finish of the week. The retreat is held at a traditional complex in Vamos at the foot of the White mountains – 10 private accommodations are set around a garden and pool (non-writing partners are welcome to come along). On the last night, aspiring writers celebrate with a concert in the courtyard and a final meal.

A leading eco-centre near Machynlleth runs a wide range of courses on sustainability: from creating habitats to upcycling. The weekend is also a opportunity to de-stress in the organization's sustainably managed woodlands, which are habitat for wildlife, otters, dormice, lesser horseshoe bats and rare birds. These recently launched summer sailing weekends are spent on Wayfarers and keelboats on the estuary in Essex. Participants can improve their steering, strengthen their seamanship and work towards the Royal Yachting Association’s certification levels in a fun, welcoming environment. There are day-only and residential packages, staying in basic shared rooms in the waterfront sailing school. The non-residential package provides lunches, while the overnight option includes two nights’ accommodation and all meals, from full English breakfasts to evening barbecues.
